Role and Responsibilities :: Responsible for General management, discipline, efficiency, performance, and training of all members of the Department :: Respond to greater alarms of fire and other emergencies as prescribed by the Chief of Department :: Manages, coordinates, and directs the staffing, implementation, and delivery of emergency services to the Sylvania Community :: Assists with departmental policy development, employee selection, contract negotiations, fire code interpretations, budget development and administration, scheduling, payroll, and budgetary allocations :: Initiates or reviews proposed disciplinary action and makes recommendation :: Oversees management and maintenance of apparatus and ancillary vehicle fleet :: Investigates vehicle accidents and personal injuries and takes correct action as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements :: 8 years of progressively responsible command and supervisory experience in a full-time fire department (up to 2 years credit for bachelor’s or full-time Military service) :: High School Diploma or GED with an Associate’s degree in Fire Science or accredited, credentialed, equivalent in related field :: Ohio Certified Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic :: NFPA 1021 Ohio Fire Officer II certification or equivalent :: State of Ohio Fire Instructor certification or successful completion of NFPA 1041 compliant Fire instructor II course :: NIMS Certified 100, 200, 700, 800 Preferred Skills :: Knowledge of fire suppression and prevention and emergency medical services, applicable laws :: Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in decision making, give and receive verbal and written instruction :: Maintain an effective working relationship with employees, supervisors, and the public | Ability to read and interpret documents :: NFPA1021 Ohio Fire Officer III, NFPA1021 Ohio Fire Officer IV, Ohio Fire Exec./Fire Officer Exec., NIMS 300 & 400.
