Union Township, Clermont County, Ohio is seeking the next Fire Chief to lead the Union Township Fire Department with the highest level of professionalism, integrity, accessibility and accountability. Union Township is the center of population and commerce growth in Clermont County and the eastern half of the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan area. U.S. Census figures report the population of this 9th largest township in the state with a population of approximately 50,000 residents, and the largest school district in the county. The Union Township Fire Department has proudly served the community since its establishment in 1990 as a full-time fire service. With a growing population of 50,000 residents and a thriving business sector, the commitment to safety and emergency response has led us to expand to six (6) strategically located fire stations. Our dedicated team of full-time cross-trained firefighters and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel is available 24/7, ensuring the highest level of protection and care for the residents and businesses. In recognition of the unwavering dedication to excellence, the department has maintained accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International since 2004.

On July 1, 2023, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) upgraded the Department’s Public Protection Rating (PPR) from 03/3X to an impressive 02/2X classification. This remarkable achievement underscores the continued commitment to enhancing the safety of our community, and it reflects the exceptional efforts of the team in providing top-notch fire protection and emergency services.

Department Mission Statement:

It is the mission of the Union Township Fire Department - Clermont County, Ohio, to strive to be on the cutting edge of excellence by exceeding expectations in providing Life Safety Services to the community. Our focus is to promote the protection of lives, property and the environment through prevention, education, timely response, mitigation and the actions of highly trained, dedicated and motivated personnel. This is directed at making a safer and healthier community.

Ideal Candidate:

The Fire Chief serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Division of Fire and is directly responsible for the administration, efficiency and general conduct of all department activities and personnel. Additional responsibilities include policy development, program planning, fiscal management, and administration of all personnel subdivisions. This position will directly report to the Township Administrator.

We are seeking a qualified candidate with a minimum of 10 years of diverse experience in firefighting, including 5 years in a supervisory or administrative position. Previous experience as an Assistant Fire Chief, Battalion Chief, or Fire Lieutenant and certification as instructor is highly valued. The desired candidate will hold advanced certifications, such as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and/or National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer credential. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in fire science, EMS, public administration, business, or a closely related field is required. A Master's degree in the same areas of study is preferred. This is an outstanding opportunity to be a member of a highly professional executive team.

1. An experienced leader who can engage and build trust and confidence with their staff, professional colleagues, fellow department directors, Union Township Officials and members of the Public.

2. A professional with that possesses the skill set necessary to forecast, budget and plan for the Fire and Emergency Medical Services needs of the community and the capability to effectively communicate those mission and values to employees and members of the community.

3. Possess a thorough understanding of practices, technologies, techniques, of modern fire prevention and critical incident-management and assure training and implementation of the skills necessary for a well-run department.

4. Inspire cooperation and confidence in others and as a role model for leadership in daily operations, fireground, division rules, regulations and mission and have the will to hold others accountable to the same expectations and standards.

Compensation and Benefits:

The annual compensation for the Fire Chief will be commensurate with the skills, experience and qualifications of the chosen candidate and will be competitive to the market.
